Anne Stewart is a current Student Relationship Coordinator at LeadAbroad. She is a recent graduate of the University of Alabama, where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta. Her journey with LeadAbroad began as a student on DIRECT Cape Town in 2022, and since then has served as an intern on GO Rome, a fellow on GO Barcelona and a Program Director for PRO Costa Rica. This summer, she is excited to return as a Program Director for GO Rome and assistant on DIRECT Florence 1. Anne’s favorite travel destination is the South of France for its beauty, accessibility to nearby towns, and vibrant activities. Her advice for students is to step outside their comfort zones and embrace new experiences, as these moments foster personal growth and confidence.

Abby Upperman is an experienced traveler! Her global perspective has been shaped by studying abroad in Florence, Italy, and participating in LeadAbroad programs in Ecuador and Cape Town. A proud alumna of UW-Madison (2015) and Johns Hopkins (2018), where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees, Abby was also a member of Pi Beta Phi’s Wisconsin Alpha chapter. Abby’s love for travel is deeply rooted in her adventures. Spain captivates her with its vibrant culture, the Philippines excites her with its sense of adventure, and Cape Town holds a special place in her heart for its personal growth opportunities and stunning landscapes. This summer, Abby is excited to join the GO Rome program as our Health and Safety Advisor, bringing her enthusiasm for culture, learning, and, of course, Italy’s incredible food. Her advice to students? “Be curious and soak it up! Observe, ask questions, listen, and take it all in.”

Elle Moore is a senior at the University of Alabama, set to graduate in May 2025. She is the Panhellenic President and a member of Alpha Chi Omega – making it clear she was born to lead others. Elle's love for traveling began with her transformative experience as a student on DIRECT Cape Town 2024. The city’s mix of mountains and beaches has made it her favorite destination. She is excited to continue exploring the world and making a positive impact on students as a Fellow on our DIRECT Greece and GO Rome 2025 programs. Elle’s advice for travelers is to lean on others, as the connections and relationships made during the journey will help push boundaries and foster personal growth.

Sydney Schmer is a recent graduate from the University of Alabama, where she was a proud member of Phi Mu. Her favorite travel destination is San Diego, California, a place that combines the best of city and beach life, with amazing shopping, food, and weather. For Sydney, it’s also a place filled with nostalgia, as she grew up visiting family there every summer. This summer, Sydney is excited to immerse herself in a completely new culture during her internship on GO Rome. She can’t wait to experience new traditions, languages, food, and social norms. Sydney encourages travelers to keep a journal to capture their memories and stresses the importance of packing light, making lists, and staying relaxed while adventuring.

Janna Tamargo, PhD, is a scholar, media professional, and CEO of Roma Media. With a background in sociology from the University of Florida, she specializes in food authenticity, gender, and ethnicity. She has led marketing strategies for two decades, excelling in email campaigns, customer research, and data-driven engagement. Founder of Authenticfood.com and past president of the Florida Society of the Social Sciences, she is also an avid traveler, having visited 50+ countries across all seven continents. She will teach our INT 290 Italy Through Food Sections this summer on our GO Rome program!

Our team is excited to welcome Dr. Carson back for another summer teaching with LeadAbroad on our GO Rome Program. He will teach our BUS 305 Principles of Entrepreneurship and BUS 370 International Business courses.

Kate Keib, Ph.D., is an associate professor and Program coordinator of Communication Studies at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Georgia. She has joined our team abroad teaching students on our GO Programs several times over the year. We are excited to welcome Dr. Keib back for another summer as a professor in Rome. She will teach our COM 230 Social Media Strategy & Analytics and COM 220 Intercultural Communications courses.

Olivia Dumas is our very own International Program Coordinator on LeadAbroad’s full time team. After spending a gap year abroad in France before college, Olivia knew she wanted to work in travel after graduation. When she heard about LeadAbroad, she pursued it as a dream job! Olivia started as an intern with us in Cape Town, and is now an experienced program director who has led multiple international programs including PRO Costa Rica, LEAD Cape Town, GO Barcelona and more. She is excited to return to GO Barcelona this summer and check DIRECT Florence off of her bucket list. She’s passionate about immersing herself in diverse cultures, with Cape Town being a standout favorite for its vibrant people, food, and views. Olivia’s excitement for Florence and Barcelona is rooted in their rich histories, hidden gems, and the opportunity for students to uncover new places. Her advice: Embrace every moment, stay grateful, and view each day as an adventure, no matter the challenges.

Ellie Jurgensmeyer, a 2024 graduate from the University of Arkansas and former member of Phi Mu. Ellie served as a New Member Educator in her chapter and as a New Member Liaison for LeadAbroad. She has participated in various LeadAbroad programs, including as a student on DIRECT Greece 1 in 2022 and as an intern on LEAD Greece in 2023, After graduation, she joined our fellowship program as a Program Director for LEAD Greece and as a Fellow on GO Barcelona in 2024. We’re excited to welcome Ellie to our full time team as a Student Relationship Coordinator and know she will thrive in her fourth summer with us this year as Program Director on LEAD Greece and DIRECT Florence Session 2 2025. Her favorite travel destination is Nice, France, where she enjoyed the charm of the French Riviera, from its narrow streets to its rocky beaches. Ellie is excited to connect with both staff and students while exploring iconic global spots. She encourages students to embrace the experience without overthinking it, reminding them to stay present, combat anxieties, and make the most of the adventure.

Victoria Shirley is a 2023 graduate of Louisiana State University and former member of Zeta Tau Alpha. Victoria studied abroad as a student on DIRECT Cape Town in 2021 and a student on GO Rome in 2023. She also served as an intern on DIRECT Cape Town in 2023 and 2024. In her fourth summer with LeadAbroad, Victoria will lead as the Health & Safety Advisor on DIRECT Cape Town and DIRECT Florence Session 2. Sierra Flores graduated with a master’s degree in management in 2022 after earning her undergraduate degree in health science. In 2022, Sierra served as an intern on our GO Rome program, and we are excited to give her a warm welcome back to Italy this summer on DIRECT Florence 1 as our Health and Safety Advisor. She is excited to mentor a new group of students, guiding them through their adventures while exploring the world together. Her advice for travelers is to avoid over-planning, as some of the best memories are made spontaneously.

Ainsley Veatch, a previous student on LEAD Cape Town 2024, will join us this summer as an intern for the DIRECT Florence 1 program. Currently a junior at the University of Alabama, Ainsley is involved in Alpha Chi Omega and is passionate about social media, videography, and photography. Ainsley’s favorite travel destinations include Wyoming for its peaceful beauty and Cape Town for its transformative experience and scenic landscapes. She is eager to explore Italy, meet the team and students, and embrace new challenges that will push her out of her comfort zone. Her advice for students is to embrace the nerves and perspective shifts that come with travel, recognizing that these experiences are transformative and that you’re never alone in your feelings.

Sara Pratt is a graduating senior at Mississippi State University and a member of Kappa Delta. Her favorite travel destination is London, where she was captivated by the castles, high teas, and her visit to Kensington Palace, a lifelong dream fueled by her fascination with Princess Diana. Sara is excited to return to Florence as an intern for the DIRECT Florence Session 2 program this summer. Having fallen in love with the city during her previous visit, she can’t wait to share its wonders with the students, exploring new sights and activities that she missed last summer. Sara's travel advice includes packing light, carrying a portable charger, and being adaptable to changes in plans—a common occurrence when traveling abroad. With her experience as a camp counselor for Camp Silver Cloud and as a trip leader for an international group of 54 girls, Sara is well-equipped to guide and support students during their adventures.

Corinne Lobell is a junior undergraduate student at Louisiana State University, set to graduate in December 2025. She is a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma and has a passion for photography, social media, and graphic design. She was also a student on DIRECT Cape Town 2 in 2024 and will serve as the New Member Liaison in the fall of 2024. Her favorite travel destination is Cape Town, South Africa, where she experienced a perfect blend of mountains, ocean, wildlife, and culture. Corinne found the city both comforting and exciting, offering a new adventure every day. As an intern on DIRECT Florence 2 in 2024, Corinne is excited to explore a new place and connect with students from around the world. She looks forward to sharing her experiences and learning from those she meets along the way. Her travel advice encourages students to embrace new opportunities, try new foods, and say "yes" to every new adventure and friendship. She emphasizes the importance of living fully and appreciating the blessings of the experience. Corinne’s leadership experience includes serving as the Philanthropy Director for Kappa Kappa Gamma and leading a community service project called Labor of Love. She was also a student on DIRECT Cape Town 2 in 2024 and will serve as the New Member Liaison in the fall of 2024.

Tori is no stranger to our PRO Costa Rica program. She was a student on PRO Costa Rica in 2023, intern in 2024, and we know she will lead the team exceptionally as the Medical Director in 2025! Kelsey Fikkert, a Texas A&M University alumni, is a member of LeadAbroad’s full-time team. Living in Atlanta, GA, she serves as our Student Relationship Manager. While most of the year is spent chatting with students interested in studying abroad, she is an enthusiastic Program Director abroad during the summer with extensive experience. Kelsey has previously been a Program Director for PRO Costa Rica, a Fellow for GO Barcelona, a Program Director for DIRECT Cape Town & GO Rome and is now returning as Program Director on DIRECT Cape Town and GO Madrid in 2025. Her advice to students embarking on this life-changing adventure is to stay open-minded, make new friends, and fully immerse themselves in every new experience.

He is a current professor at Oglethorpe University, where he teaches business and management classes along with First Year Seminar.     Meet Ish! If you’ve been to Cape Town with LeadAbroad, you know Ish—the ultimate host, airport greeter, and friend who makes every trip unforgettable. One of the first people we met in Cape Town 16 years ago, Ish has been an essential part of the LeadAbroad family ever since as our Activities Director. He goes above and beyond his role, ensuring seamless and unforgettable experiences for our students. From coordinating activities and transportation to providing unwavering support to our team, Ish keeps our programs running smoothly—all while being an incredible father to his two children. His warmth, dedication, and passion for hospitality make him an irreplaceable part of our journey in South Africa.

    Abby Pate is a current junior at the University of Alabama and the current president of her sorority, Alpha Gamma Delta. Abby is actively involved on campus, serving as a president of Capstone Men and Women and as the vice president of campus relations for Alpha Gamma Delta, among other leadership roles. One of her favorite travel experiences was a family trip to the Bahamas, where they connected with locals, snorkeled, and explored the history of the Abacos Islands.     Carlie Wilkins is a current senior at the University of Central Florida and a member of Tri Delta. After going abroad as a student on DIRECT Cape Town in 2024, Carlie is excited to return to South Africa on the same program, but this time as an intern! She looks forward to helping students discover their passions and explore new opportunities, just as she did during her previous summer abroad. She encourages students to step outside their comfort zones, meet new people, and immerse themselves fully in the culture and surroundings. Carlie’s leadership experience as a Rho Gamma for sorority recruitment and her involvement in medical mission trips to Kenya and Peru have prepared her well to support students as they navigate their own transformative experiences abroad. Her favorite travel destination is anywhere near a beach, where she can enjoy outdoor activities, the ocean, and reading books by the shore.

    Kathryn Draughon is a member of LeadAbroad’s full-time team. After joining us as a student on DIRECT Greece in 2023, she knew his time with LeadAbroad would not end there. Following her graduation from Louisiana State University, she hopped on a plane across the world to serve as a Fellow in 2024 on DIRECT Greece and GO Lisbon, and spent the following fall months traveling to college campuses to chat with students about once in a lifetime opportunities. After her six month fellowship, our team was excited to welcome Kathryn full time as a Student Relationship Coordinator. She’s traveled extensively, with Lisbon standing out as her favorite destination due to its vibrant culture, stunning beaches, and delicious food. Kathryn is thrilled to return to some of her favorite places this summer and create new experiences with a fresh team and students. As a Program Director for DIRECT Greece and GO Lisbon in 2025, her advice to students is to be present and fully embrace the journey, as these experiences fly by in the blink of an eye.

    To know her is to love her! We are excited to welcome Amanda Printz Whooley (AKA “Printz” by our students) as our professor back again this summer on LEAD Greece and GO Lisbon. In Greece, she will teach our Leadership Global Theory and Practice and Global Citizenship and Civic Engagement courses.       Eve Hernandez is a LeadAbroad alumni from LEAD Cape Town in 2018 and 2019. This summer, we are excited to welcome her back to our programming staff as the Health and Safety Advisor on LEAD Cape Town 2025. She is a proud graduate of Chico State and Texas State. With a background in study abroad advising, campus tours, mental health first aid, and international internships, Eve brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to her role. Her first international experience was in Costa Rica, where she stayed with a welcoming host family and explored the country's natural beauty, including beaches, volcanoes, and hot springs. Eve is excited to return to Cape Town to connect with students, hike Table Mountain (for a third time), and share her passion for travel and food. Her advice to fellow travelers is to embrace new experiences, wake up early, and say yes to adventures—because it's the moments of exploration that become the most memorable – not the naps.

Her mission trip experiences and leadership roles as a recruitment counselor and peer mentor make her the perfect fit when it comes to building relationships with students. She’s most excited to help students check off items on their bucket lists while studying abroad. Daryn’s advice to students is to be prepared for the challenges of traveling to a new country and to ensure they have everything they need for a comfortable flight.       Salmah Piprawala is a current first-year graduate student at Texas A&M University and will serve as a Teaching Assistant for the LEAD Cape Town program this summer. Salmah’s background includes working as a camp counselor for adults with disabilities and serving as President of the Human Development and Family Sciences Association. Her favorite travel destination is Trinidad and Tobago, where she’s been able to appreciate breathtaking views, incredible food, and her family’s roots. Salmah is most excited to meet and work with new students as they navigate and experience a new environment together. She advises others to plan ahead and have everything ready for their flights to reduce stress.

        Shi Belcher is a passionate adventurer and storyteller who thrives on capturing the world around him. As a graduate from the University of San Francisco and a first-year graduate student at Texas A&M University, Shi brings a plethora of experience from his background in hospitality, leadership, and teaching. After studying abroad in Costa Rica and the Philippines, Shi became deeply fascinated by the beauty of nature and the intricate balance of ecosystems. His time in Costa Rica was a pivotal experience that inspired him to continue exploring the world’s natural wonders. As a Teaching Assistant for LEAD Cape Town this summer, Shi is excited to dive deeper into a new culture and connect with people from all walks of life. "What excites me most is understanding how connected we all are, even across vast distances," he shares. Shi's advice to fellow travelers is to approach new environments with an open heart and mind, while staying true to oneself. "You’re entering someone else’s home," he says. "Be authentic and grounded in the experience." Outside of his academic journey, Shi has worked as a camp counselor, sports coach, university ambassador, and president of a hospitality organization. His global experiences continue to shape her worldview, and he can’t wait to share her passion for travel, culture, and connection with the LEAD Cape Town community this summer.

Olivia started as an intern with us in Cape Town, and is now an experienced program director who has led multiple international programs including PRO Costa Rica, LEAD Cape Town, GO Barcelona and more. She is excited to return to GO Barcelona this summer and check DIRECT Florence off of her bucket list.
