Our Teaching Assistants are key aspects to a successful curriculum abroad. While your main responsibility is catering to our faculty and their coursework, TA's will also serve on the programming team in operations.
As a TA, LeadAbroad covers your international airfare, health insurance, housing, all program related activities and tours, and a local sim card. TA's also receive salary and a stipend while working abroad.
Kyra Barrier, a 2023 and 2024 Teaching Assistant on LEAD Cape Town, was able to make her role so much more than just a job, but an opportunity to foster new, meaningful relationships with others and herself. "My experience in South Africa as a TA was a remarkable, academic and personal learning experience. Working with Dr. Chandler was incredible in the sense that he was passionate about his work and immerse in SA culture. I’m a type A person and I liked that Dr. Chandler was effective at communicating his expectations about grading and classroom management. Outside of work in my downtime I got closer to staff and students and enjoyed the beauty of Cape Town. There is no better TA experience than the one you’ll have in Cape Town."
Abby Upperman recapped her role by saying, "As a TA, I was involved in both the academic and programmatic sides of the experience, which allowed for me to interact with students not only during class lectures and discussions, but also during meals, tours, and adventures!" Being a TA offers a well-rounded view of all that being on staff has to offer. It's is a great opportunity to learn a little bit of everything! "One of my favorite responsibilities as a TA was engaging with students through their weekly journal reflections and self-discovery assignments, giving feedback that challenged them to think like global leaders, both while they were in Cape Town and back at home. Through this role, I deepened my understanding of how I form meaningful relationships with people and recognized the importance of stepping back to allow others to lead. I would 10/10 recommend TA-ing with LeadAbroad!"
The experience our staff receives while working these programs truly is remarkable. Being able to watch students grow and have the time of their lives all while doing the same directly beside them is a gift you don't want to miss!
