From the Grove to the Globe: Ole Miss Students Abroad!

This week LeadAbroad is celebrating College Week! During the fall, we travel to multiple schools across the country to tell students about the amazing opportunity to join our programs and have experiences of a lifetime. Unfortunately, by the time we get to some universities many students are disappointed after realizing majority of spots are taken and wish they had joined the priority list sooner. College Week is an opportunity to get ahead of the game and join the list BEFORE we come visit you in your college town!

We'll be highlighting four different schools, with the University of Mississippi being the first. Stay on the lookout to see who we'll be visiting in the fall!

Whether you're going on a program alone or with a group of friends, you'll leave with a community built of every student and staff that met while abroad. However, many students go on programs and have a community ALREADY without knowing it before even stepping on the plane! This year alone, 131 University of Mississippi students traveled with us to six different locations. Venturing on programs with LeadAbroad can bring you connections with students that live across the country, but also ones that will be right next door upon returning home!

LeadAbroad prioritizes making trusting relationships for our students, and lucky for us, our students do the exact same! Whether you go to the same school, one a few hours down the road, or a few states away, our students focus on building long-lasting friendships no matter where they are from on the map. Clay Blanchard, a 3rd year at Ole Miss on our DIRECT Florence program, shared how this was one of her favorite parts of the entire study abroad experience. "Coming from Ole Miss I knew I'd see people I knew, but I also knew I wanted to make new friends from different universities and I can honestly say I've made some friends (from different and the same university) that will last a lifetime." Our students leave with extremely close bonds and memories that help shape them into the best versions of themselves!

Not only do students make the best of friends, but they are also able to grow their educations with unique learning opportunities alongside fellow Ole Miss students! We have so many different program options, in order to cater to the wants and needs of as many students as possible. Doing so allows us to have programs like PRO Costa Rica that allows students like Adi Young, a 2nd year on the PRO Costa Rica program in 2023, to gain experience in their desired field while creating once in a lifetime memories abroad. "This program allows anyone going into a health care field the chance for so many hands-on shadowing hours along with tons of exciting activities and adventures!" So many students feel their lives have been forever changed through their experience, but they've also helped change the lives of the locals that they've done service acts for. Our programs are designed in a way to make sure students are able to take full advantage of being in a new country, able to explore all it has to offer, while also serving the communities around them leaving a positive impact wherever we go. Samantha Herpich, a 1st year on our LEAD Cape Town program, loved that she was able to experience it all while in Africa. "We did some amazing adventures including skydiving, sand boarding, bungee jumping, and more. We also had the opportunity to participate in service in the townships and create relationships with the kids!" Our students embrace their programs to the fullest and that is what makes LeadAbroad programs so special.

Each of our programs are filled with students from across the country, but who knows, you could meet your best friend abroad that happens to go to school back home with you in Oxford, Mississippi! Check out our next set of blogs to see other universities featured on Travel Talk! If you would like to have breakthrough experiences abroad like Adi, Clay and Samantha, join our 2025 priority list below.

We'll see you soon Oxford, Mississippi!
