"LeadAbroad was one of the very best decisions I have ever made! I flew to Athens not knowing a single person which was definitely out of my comfort zone, but I met an amazing group of girls on the first night at welcome dinner who would soon become my best friends. Putting myself out there was scary at first but everyone on the program made me feel so comfortable that my fear went away instantly. I can’t wait to tell stories from my trip for the rest of my life!"
— Abby Rapp, University of Mississippi
"I loved the group, relationship-based approach that made all 85 people feel like family. I formulated meaningful and enduring relationships with wonderful people who were kind, inclusive, and supportive to all of us, even when there was only 4 of us guys. The program not only taught me more about myself than I’d ever thought, but also showed me what it looks like to be a leader."
— Janson Sanders, University of Arkansas

Academic Credit
You will enroll in two courses for a total of six credits from Oglethorpe University. Everyone participates in the same courses: “Leadership: Global Theory and Practice” and “Global Citizenship and Civic Engagement.” To provide more flexibility in your course selection, you can choose to label these courses in a variety of disciplines on your transcript under the subjects of leadership, history, politics, sociology or philosophy. Past students say that they have learned more about themselves from these two courses than any other class taken during their college career. Courses focus on who you are as an individual and where you want to go in life. They allow you to define your vision and values in a way that you may have never thought about before, and they provide you with direction after you return home.
Tours & Excursions
Maximize your time abroad as you hop between program locations in Greece with all of your included activities and tours. You’ll feel like you have stepped back in time when you see the first Olympic stadium and the Acropolis in Athens. You will also have opportunities to stretch your comfort zone – whether you decide to take a leap and bungee jump over Corinth Canal or get your blood pumping with a day hike in stunning Samaria Gorge. Other excursions include a visit to hot springs, volcano hike, and trips to world-famous attractions like the blue domes of Oia and the charming towns in Crete. Oia is the only place in the world we know where everyone stops to applaud when the sun finally sets because the experience is that breathtaking.
Community Engagement & Service
As part of our service-learning curriculum, you will dive into the local culture and gain perspective as you observe and learn from one of Athens’ best non-profit organizations. These experiences are made possible through unique partnerships with local organizations such as the Salvation Army, The NO Project and animal rescue centers. In all service projects, you will make a difference whether you are rehabilitating a building, organizing donations, completing a beach cleanup or increasing outreach on global issues like human trafficking. The service-learning curriculum comes to life through hands-on work, debrief discussions and journal reflections. Our faculty and teaching assistants will ensure that you are understanding the experience and connecting it back to your life at home.
Accommodations
All of your accommodations in Greece inspire relaxation and are located in safe, centrally located neighborhoods. In your first week, you will stay in Glyfada, a quaint seaside suburb of Athens. While in Santorini, you will stay at a boutique hotel in Fira with easy access to restaurants and the best views of the island.
Our final stop in Crete is where you will stay at a poolside retreat in the peaceful, hilltop neighborhood of Koutouloufari. You will live with one to four other students in each accommodation as every hotel typically has twin, triple and quad room setups. Whether you sign up with a friend or adventure solo, we will match you with roommates based on your personality and interests.
